Acoustics

  1. Acoustic tests and computations, including development of procedures, numerical models and computer software, in support of design work on ships, submarines and submersible vehicles for:

    • acoustic tank tests of model ship structures in order to evaluate noise radiation of individual hull components;
    • variable-pressure tank tests of marine system components in order to evaluate noise reflection and transmittance factors under different hydrostatic pressures;
    • resilient structures and fixtures in order to evaluate their service life characteristics;
    • main and auxiliary (reserve) propulsors;
    • various items of ship and power-generating equipment or their large-scale models in order to evaluate vibration and acoustics characteristics (sound power levels, noise levels, vibration accelerations, vibration velocities);
    • ship self-noise and flow noise levels in sonar domes.

  2. Development of guidelines, normative and regulatory documents for designing and upgrading ships, submarines and submersibles in terms of their hydroacoustic performances:

    • acoustic-wise design of ship hulls;

    • development of hydroacoustic and vibration damping coatings;

    • resilient mountings;

    • low-noise equipment;

    • noise measurements and source identification;

    • reduction of noise hampering onboard sonar performance In signature control division .

  3. Development of measurement and data analysis instrumentation.

  4. Development of measures for indoor and outdoor noise reduction.
