ISC'94
The First International Shipbuilding Conference

The First International Shipbuilding Conference ISC'94 was established and organised by the Krylov Shipbuilding Research Institute and was dedicated to KSRI centenary. The conference took place during October 8-12, 1994 at KSRI, St.Petersburg, Russia.

The conference programme included the jubilee plenary session on the first day and technical sessions split in six working groups:

  • Section A - Ship design and fleet renewal optimisation;
  • Section B - Ship hydrodynamics;
  • Section C - Strength and reliability of marine structures;
  • Section D - Marine power plants;
  • Section F - Ship electrodynamics, magnetism and hydrophysics;
  • Section G - Ecology and environment protection;
  • Section E - Ship acoustics (within the framework of the Second International Symposium "Transport Noise and Vibration" dedicated to the KSRI centenary, St.Petersburg, October 4-6, 1994).

Conference participants from 19 countries presented over 330 plenary and section reports published in six-volume ISC'94 Proceedings. More than 900 scientists took part in the Conference.

ISC'98
The Second International Shipbuilding Conference

The Second International Shipbuilding Conference (ISC'98) was organised by the Krylov Shipbuilding Research Institute in collaboration with the St.Petersburg State Maritime Technical University and the Dzerzhinsky Naval Engineering Academy. It was held under the auspices of the Russian Federation Ministry for Economy, the Russian Federation Ministry for Science and Technology, the Russian Federation Ministry for General and Professional Education, the Russian Navy, the Russian Federation Ministry of Defence and the Administration of St.Petersburg. The Conference was arranged on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of Russian higher education in naval architecture and held on November 24-26, 1998 at KSRI, St.Petersburg, Russia.

     The Conference included five specialised sections:

  • Section A - Design of advanced ships, ship design optimisation, analysis and synthesis of marine transportation systems;
  • Section B - Propulsion, seakeeping, manoeuvring performance and ice interaction of ships, marine vehicles and structures;
  • Section C - Strength, reliability and durability of ship hulls and offshore structures;
  • Section D - Marine power plants and environmental problems, acoustics of ship machinery and equipment;
  • Section E - Physical fields of ships and oceans (acoustics, electrodynamics, magnetism and hydrophysics), habitability of ships.

The ISC'98 programme, unlike the ISC'94 Conference, included the following presently key problems of commercial and naval shipbuilding:

  • Management problems in shipbuilding industry;

  • Problems of ship repair and shipbuilding technology conversion;

  • Survivability of naval and commercial ships, accidents, safety and rescue at sea;

  • Information-&-control systems for ships and ship equipment;

  • Safety of ship machinery operation;

  • Vibration and acoustics, dynamic strength and reliability of marine equipment;

  • Ship and ocean acoustics.

Conference participants from 25 countries of Asia, Africa, Europe and North America presented about 490 plenary and section papers published in eight-volume ISC'98 Proceedings. About 600 scientists have attended the Conference.
